Fetal Cardiology

Fetal cardiology focuses on the study of the structure and function of your baby’s heart before birth. Pregnant women at increased risk of giving birth to a baby with congenital heart disease will typically be referred to a trained pediatric cardiologist to have a fetal echocardiogram performed. This test uses sound waves (ultrasound) to study the structure of the heart. While not all heart abnormalities are detectable prenatally, a fetal echocardiogram can identify a number of heart conditions. Your obstetrician can refer you to our office if it is believed that you are at risk.
